My father was an officer in the Air Force and so I had the opportunity during my childhood to live in many places including Washington DC. After my father retired from the military, my family moved to Oklahoma to help care for my grandmother. I graduated from Altus High School located in Altus, Oklahoma in 1983. I obtained my undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma in 1987and my Juris Doctorate in 1992 from Oklahoma City University School of Law. I worked for the District Attorney's office for two years in Oklahoma and then moved to Las Vegas in January of 1994. I was in private practice from 1994-1995 working with Betty Smallwood in wills and probate. In 1995 I joined the Clark County District Attorney's office where I worked in the criminal division. In my job as a deputy district attorney I had the opportunity to work on many types of criminal cases. In my capacity as a prosecutor I successfully won many well known cases which appeared on Court TV as well as Las Vegas One. I also successfully argued cases before the Nevada Supreme Court. While in the District Attorney's office I helped to write training material for law enforcement as well as conducting training seminars.
